TNP Week 1 Recap

Worcester Sets The Early Pace As Chaos Rules Opening Weekend

Opening weekend of the 2026 season delivered exactly what The National Pastime hoped for: huge scores, brutal misses, sweep bonuses, and immediate separation in the standings. When the dust settled after Week 1, it was the Worcester Red Sox leading the way with a league-best 42 points, powered by one of the strongest confidence sheets of the weekend. Worcester became the first team to crack the 40-point mark in the new Weekend 9 era and immediately established itself as the early team to beat.

Right behind them, the Aberdeen Iron Birds finished with 38 points after cashing several high-confidence selections, while the Carolina Mudcats and Omaha Storm Chasers each posted strong 35-point performances. Defending chaos champion honors for Week 1 probably belong to the Gwinnett Stripers, who managed 34 points despite missing several early confidence picks before rallying late in the weekend with multiple high-value wins and picking up the win in a tie-breaker over the Bowling Green Hot Rods.

On the opposite side of the standings, opening weekend reminded everyone just how unforgiving the confidence format can be. The Santa Fe Fuego struggled out of the gate with only 15 points, while the Portland Sea Dogs managed just 18 after several high-confidence misses buried their week early. The new format wasted no time proving that one bad “9-point” miss can completely change the standings.

Week 1 also featured several tightly packed middle-tier scores, with teams like the Kane County Cougars, Erie SeaWolves, Bowling Green Hot Rods, Sacramento River Cats, and South Bend Cubs all finishing within striking distance of the lead heading into Week 2. With sweep bonuses already playing a factor and no owner anywhere near mathematically out of contention, the early standings remain wide open.

The 2026 season is officially underway.
