Malachi Hammerle Returns to the Top in Barcelona

Scarlet Speedworks star earns first win of 2026 as championship battles tighten across the board

The 2026 Victory Lane Racing Formula One Series championship picture took another dramatic turn Sunday at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as Malachi Hammerle scored his first victory of the season and fourth of his career. Hammerle's dominant performance snapped a four-race winless stretch and vaulted him from fifth back to first in the championship standings. After leading the series following the Chinese Grand Prix before slipping down the order, the Scarlet Speedworks driver now holds an 11-point advantage atop the standings with 15 races remaining.

Hammerle wasn't the only driver making a statement in Spain. Kirk Hunter delivered a runner-up finish for StoneHunter Racing, while Steve Ruth continued his quietly impressive season with a third-place run for Scommessa Venta. Tyler Kruep and Zach Kruep finished fifth and sixth respectively, helping Corsa Velocè earn its first Team of the Week victory of the season. Meanwhile, several championship contenders endured difficult afternoons. Jamie Dyke salvaged 17th place, Britten Steinfels fell to 23rd one race after winning Monaco, Cody Zeeb finished 28th, and Greg Miller suffered through a disastrous 29th-place result that dropped him out of the championship's top five.

While Hammerle reclaimed the driver standings lead, the team championship may have become the biggest storyline leaving Barcelona. PMG remains atop the standings, but Scarlet Speedworks slashed the deficit from 23 points to just six after Hammerle's victory. StoneHunter Racing remains within striking distance in third, while Honda strengthened its grip on the constructor championship with its second victory of the season. With only 26 points separating the top five drivers and the top two teams separated by just six points, every championship battle remains wide open heading into Austria.

Honda continues to lead the way thanks to victories from Greg Miller in Japan and Malachi Hammerle in Barcelona. Renault remains firmly in contention, while Ferrari's depth continues to keep it within striking distance despite only one victory this season.

Next Up: Austrian Grand Prix

The series heads next to the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix. Malachi Hammerle arrives with the championship lead, but Jamie Dyke, Britten Steinfels, Tyler Kruep, and Dawn Keller all remain within 26 points of the top spot. With PMG and Scarlet Speedworks separated by just six points and Honda trying to fend off Renault and Ferrari in the constructor standings, Austria could once again reshape the entire championship picture. www.thefantasysportsite.com/racingf1.html
