| The 2007-2008 Football Cool Pool season started off with a bang and a slew of high scores. In the first game Miller’s Hitmen beat the Chester Racecars 17-10. The Racecars won the Miller North last year, while the Hitmen spent the playoffs at home. Next the Drew Crew polished off the Richmond Halos 18-14. The Drew Crew also made the playoffs last season and are looking to return. Owen’s Gridiron got a 16-16 Tiebreaker win over the Grass Stains. The Grass Stains are a new team run by Todd Bevering. Next, in a divisional grudge match, the Frankfurt Galaxy beat Smashmouth Football 19-16 in the highest scoring game of the week. The Galaxy are looking to defend their divisional title this year. Baldridge’s Gang welcomed the Killer C’s into the league with a 14-13 defeat. The Killer C’s are run by Bennett Chevalier. The Sullivan Smashers topped Chance’s River Runners 17-14 in another high scoring match-up. Both of these teams missed the playoffs last year and are looking for redemption. The 2006-2007 Football Cool Pool Champions, The Orange Smoke began the defense of their title with an 18-13 win over the Metrodome Monkies. The Maxballs, run by Stephen Major started things off right with a 14-11 win over the Vegas Voltage in their first game. The Steel Armadillos snagged the Fishing Legends 17-13 to earn a tie for first place in the Riney East Division. In a battle between cousins, the Gateway Aliens squeaked by the Preston Llamas 15-14 when the Llamas season team (Da’ Bears) lost to the Chargers. The Tackle Dummies were able to slip by Helton’s Bandits on a tie breaker win after a 13-13 tie. The Lucky Stars, run by Eldon Daughenbaugh, used a surprise win by season team Green Bay to beat the Rhode Island Quahogs 16-15. Meanwhile, the Indiana Indians scalped the Carolina Bassett Hounds 18-16. The Indians led the FCP last season with 11 wins. The Waxhaw Thrillers survived a loss by season team New Orleans to beat the Draper River Rats 15- 10. Lastly, The Bud Lite Bombers won a shoot-out with Dr. Z 18-17. The Bombers finished 4th in the Riney South last year and aim to improve on that this year. That’s all for week one. Check back next Wednesday for a wrap-up on week two!!! |
